• You can turn homework into something fun. You can make games out of your homework problems. You can also set up a rewards system. For every night of homework you finish you can give yourself a reward. For every set of homework you finish you can watch an episode of your favorite television show or eat your favorite ice cream.


• You can also work regularly to improve the way your brain works. The nice thing about the brain is that it has the ability to focus on two types of projects throughout the day but never at the same time. One is the more creative type of project and the other is the more mundane type of project. This is why it can seem easy for you to write a creative paper one day and then impossible later that day. It is the same reason why your mind can almost mindlessly file your papers or write down notes while you read in a calm fashion one day but the next day your brain won’t stop thinking. If you can learn to work with whatever phase your brain is in you can make better use of your time. When your creative wave hits sit down and work on creative tasks. When your more mundane settings take hold you can work on more mundane tasks like note taking or organizing.


• When you are not working on your homework you should get away from the computer. If you do not need it or you are not using it then turn it off and move away. It is far too easy for children to get sucked into playing on the computer or clicking on the email notification that just popped up without needing to. This results in minutes at a time lost. In the long run this results in hours of productivity lost. For example: if you check your email and get distracted by a five minute cat video once every hour and you do homework for two hours per day then you are distracted for ten minutes during each of your homework sessions. That amounts to 70 minutes each week of lost time.
